Why You Should Focus On Improving Toto Asia

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an opportunity to grow for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could read the words. However, many of the words were being replaced with foreign words, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Toto's early history which began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the beginning of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It used the first tunnel kilns in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding its operations overseas in the latter part of the 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. The company founded the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other products of other manufacturers to enhance its own line of sanitary earthenwares as well as plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and increased the company's global market share.

In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis to research and development of household appliances that use water. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of customers and increase profits. The company employed the same just-in time approach in its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a greater level customer satisfaction.

Toto has continued to innovate on the toilet technology. Its latest toilet has a strong, eco-friendly tornado flush. The company makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process, and has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more efficient in terms of energy consumption than standard models.

The first museum of the company was opened in 2015, and it has exhibitions on Toto's most iconic products and their evolution as well as its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the history of plumbing and other products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum even has a bathroom that features the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.

Before forming Toto members of the group performed sessions with various musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich and guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name like Asia you'd expect the group to be prog kings and queens but they're actually a fairly simple rock band. The band was initially four members and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The band has a varied musical background but their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a major blockbuster, however it did not come without its share of problems. The record companies placed the band under pressure to deliver a hit single or they would drop the album. Toto was able to do this with the help from the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is a result of their prior experience. Before forming the group, the band members were session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has since become the standard for  pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album begins with a hefty dose of hard rock with songs like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write great AOR songs that slowly get their hooks into you. However, the album also includes some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song is a mix of folk and distorted AOR which could sound completely wrong but actually works extremely well.

After Toto IV The band's fortunes took a turn to the downside. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band was through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It was not as popular as IV. The group managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was the first album to feature a new singer, Simon Phillips.

The band has a wide collection of songs, and their catalog has been played more than one billion times via streaming services all over the world. The band's music has inspired many generations of fans.

Steve Lukather has forged a rich, deep friendship with Joe Williams that is flourishing professionally around the globe. In 2018, the duo celebrated 40 Tours Around the Sun with a wildly successful tour across the globe. The album that bears the same name reached #5 on Billboard 200. The latest tour of the band features their greatest hits rare live deep-cuts and an assortment of songs that come from Lukather's and Williams' individual catalogues.

Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet arrangement of the previous albums. It was a more ferocious, consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous efforts.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded the band's Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released a brand new studio album a few months later and embarked on a tour around the world to help promote the album. During this period, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded before. It was released in the form of a double-album called Then & Now in 2001. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams suffered from a bad laryngitis condition which limited his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes and the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened a meeting in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally restructuring the band. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured an appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
