Water Sense Technology

In the years that followed Toto's debut album band struggled to create an appropriate sound and underwent numerous changes of members. In the end, Hungate left the band in 1980 to pursue an independent career in Nashville. His departure was due to an inability to spend time with his family and a growing addiction to drugs. The band's success ultimately was dependent on the talent of Lukather and keyboardist Steve Porcaro.

The band began to tour extensively after the release of Toto IV. In 1985, Fergie Frederiksen's vocalist was dismissed for having trouble blending with the rest. Toto released Fahrenheit in 1986, a year that followed the recording of Fahrenheit.
The album was an innovative musical venture for the group, incorporating elements of gospel and jazz. It was not a commercial success in North America, but did well in Japan. In 1987, Toto played the Montreux Jazz Festival and continued to tour. During this time the bassist David Hungate quit the band to concentrate on his session work and production career. Steve Lukather, a guitarist/vocalist was his replacement.
